If you don't like wearing a thick wetsuit, but you're worried about being cold then ISURUS can offer the best of both worlds.
We're going to explain the science behind how ISURUS makes wetsuits that are both warmer and thinner.
We'll also look at some factors to consider in making your choice of wetsuit thickness, and how to be sure that you can make the jump to a wetsuit that's 1mm thinner, but offers the same warmth and comfort as a "big brand" wetsuit.
The surfer feedback is consistent - whichever ISURUS wetsuit theywear, it’s warmer than any other brand. Here are just a few of the independent reviews from real surfers:
"They are so warm , flexible and comfortable . My 3.3 feels as warm as a 4.3 but as flexible as a 2.2"
"I wasn’t sure about the can get it a millimeter thinner claim, but I risked it and got the 2 mil, and I am a believer. I hate being chilly and I was just as warm if not warmer than my non-Isurus 3/2"
"I usually use a 3.2 year round in SoCal, but my sessions shorten as it starts to get cold. I’ve had this suit for 2 weeks now and can confirm the 3.3 is definitively warmer than my typical 3.2"
"I've been very impressed with my hooded 3.3. This was my everyday dawn patrol suit this winter in San Diego, and eliminated any need to use a 4.3- it's just as warm, but with the flexibility of a 3.2"
You can see hundreds of reviews on our website with the same comments about how warm ISURUS wetsuits are, and many surfers have selected an ISURUS wetsuit that's 1mm thinner than a traditional wetsuit.
It comes down to two factors that are critical for a high-performance wetsuit:
material choice and wetsuit design.
The Yamamoto Limestone Neoprene, which is the foundation of ISURUS wetsuits, has a much denser concentration of independent cells within its material (see image below), and this means that it:
Additionally, the Jersey that sandwiches the Neoprene (shown above in red and green) is also selected for its thermal properties, ensuring every effort is made to create a warm, comfortable wetsuit.
✅ ISURUS construct our wetsuits with fewer panels = less seams.
✅ Less stitching on the seams = reduced water intake where the panels connect
✅ Less fresh water entering the wetsuit = warmer water inside your wetsuit
These material and design choices come with additional costs, but we believe they provide higher-performance every single time you surf - and who can place a price on that?
You have probably noticed in our customer reviews that many surfers actually wear an ISURUS wetsuit that is 1mm thinner than a mass-market wetsuit.
This is the case based on the genuine experience of many surfers, but there are some considerations you need to take into account.
If you surf then it is clear why you'd want to choose a thinner wetsuit, but should you?
With ISURUS' advanced neoprene technology, under many conditions you can wear a thinner wetsuit without sacrificing warmth, flexibility, or durability.
Whereas traditional wetsuits rely on bulkier Neoprene for warmth, ISURUS' advanced micro-cell structure allows for a thinner wetsuit with superior insulation.
The science is clear, and hundreds of reviews all back this up.
But knowing whether you can personally go a full 1mm thinner wearing an ISURUS wetsuits depends on a few factors:
1. Do you get colder than other surfers?
If you're not sure, you can try answering these questions:
If you answered "yes" to many of these questions then you might need the extra 1mm of warmth, otherwise you can confidently go 1mm thinner in an ISURUS wetsuit.
2. Do you paddle around hunting for waves, or do you sit out the back waiting for the perfect set?
If you’re a wave-hound then ISURUS wetsuits are absolutely perfect for you, with more flexibility you’ll be paddling for more waves than you thought possible! If you're not doing a lot of paddling, then on days with a cold wind you may want the additional 1mm.
3. The temperatures you’re actually surfing in and duration of your surfs
If you’re not frequently surfing in really cold conditions, or more likely to have a quick surf on a freezing morning, then you do not need such a warm suit and you can go 1mm thinner. Maybe you’ll duck out of a session or two in the winter, or make an extra effort to paddle around more, but for the vast majority of your surfs, you’re going to stay toasty with 1mm less Neoprene in an ISURUS wetsuit.
Unlike traditional wetsuits that require extra thickness to retain warmth, ISURUS allows you to go 1mm thinner, giving you a lighter wetsuit that dries faster and improves mobility.
Don’t believe the science? Then just speak to any surfer in the line-up wearing an ISURUS wetsuit and ask what the thickness of their wetsuit is - it's probably 1mm thinner than the one you're wearing!
ISURUS have taken every opportunity in the design of our wetsuits to create the best possible surfing experience for you. This costs a little more, but the benefits are clear every single session.
All of these factors compound so you can get the most out of each surf session:
· Paddling more thanks to less restrictive and more flexible materials
· Staying in the water longerbecause you’re warmer, more comfortable and “surf fit”
· Catching more waves as you get stronger and surf longer sessions
It’s hard to put a price on a perfect surf session, but if you’re looking for long term value beyond these benefits, don’t forget that ISURUS wetsuits are built to last many seasons.
