Why we make durable wetsuits

We believe in providing actual value to customers and live by the mantra of buy well, buy once. We knew that we wanted to make wetsuits using the highest-performing materials possible, and that would come at a cost to us and our customers.

Financial investment groups now own most mass-market wetsuit companies. These companies follow the outdated strategy of planned obsolescence, and their products are engineered to fail after a season or two of use.

Every stitch, zip and fabric is built to last

This approach is a more financially viable and sustainable business practice, and we make every effort to ensure that every stitch, zip, and material in our wetsuits are built to last. Surfers who have a great experience wearing our wetsuits for many seasons will spread the word to other surfers, and that's one way we'll grow and become a valued and trusted brand.
This testimonial from KB Brown means a lot to us, as his genuine surprise at how long his wetsuit has lasted speaks volumes.
If you think river surfing is less impactful on a wetsuit than ocean surfing, you'd be wrong! The proximity to rocks, efforts to access the goods, and length of time spent in the water (and standing up) make river surfing a challenging environment for any wetsuit.

However, we also test our wetsuits in the harshest ocean conditions on earth, from Mavericks to Shipsterns and North of the Arctic Circle. We know they go the distance.
Here's another perspective from someone who spends as much time chasing the biggest waves on earth as anyone - Twiggy Baker talks about why he supports ISURUS:

The Most Durable Wetsuits Are The Most Environmentally Responsible

Of course, there's a commercial rationale to our approach—make the best wetsuits, and surfers will tell everyone else in the lineup. But we also believe it's the most environmentally responsible way to make wetsuits.

All wetsuits take energy to make and have limited uses at the end of their life, so the most sustainable one is the one that stays out of landfill the longest.

If that wetsuit is also the warmest, most comfortable, and most flexible, that's a huge bonus. We respect companies that try to use natural materials to make wetsuits. However, from our experience, they do not perform well in the water, and the materials break down quickly.

This video from our key material partner, YAMAMOTO, shows a test that they carried out comparing how long natural rubber lasts compared to YAMAMOTO #39 rubber:

Are you tired of Replacing Your Wetsuits Every Year?

Most wetsuits are built to break, not last. Designed with planned obsolescence, they force you to constantly upgrade to the latest gimmick, which is terrible for your wallet and the planet.
