I've been fortunate enough to have used a lot of wetsuits. Beginning with the O'neill beavertail through the stiff fullsuits of the late 20th century, up to the present time. Many suits have their gimmicks: quick dry, neck gators, tight wrist and ankle cuffs, but they're still the same ill-fitting, moderately flexible suit.
Then a quantum leap occurred.

It's also exceptionally warm, with the flexibility in the shoulder and hips where it's needed.
As the Orthopedic Surgeon for the ASP/WSL for the last 25 years, I've seen a multitude of injuries from tight, poor fitting suits. The cut and stitch pattern is superb to allow exceptional flexibility through the shoulders. This decreases the risk of impingement syndrome and rotator cuff damage. The zipper less entry and exit is also very flexible around the shoulder which also decreases the risk of rotator cuff or labral damage.
I have also experienced myself the low back stiffness that occurs with a poorly fit wetsuit that allows low back chill. Even though the Shield is only a 2/2, the stitch and paneling is done to maximize fit with optimal warmth to the low back area.
Spend a little bit more on this fabulous suit rather than in my office with your shoulder pain. Buying quality never goes out of style. I rarely give testimonials, but I believe in Isurus wetsuits.

"Been through all the companies out there. This is by far the finest of quality suit. The rubber is incredible and cannot compare to anything on the market. It’s much better , the more you wear it the more it molds to your skin and body type. Never felt a warmer suit , you won’t get cold. Highly recommend it if you look to buy things that are quality and that will last you"

"This suit makes surfing in the North East winter enjoyable. All my buddies wear RipCurl Flash Bombs and Xcel Drylocks etc. and they never last as long as I do in the Alpha Evade 4/5/4. This suit has held its own for me in 30mph windy/drifty blizzards with water temps in the mid-low 30s and air temps/wind-chills in the Teens. The only thing that gets me out of the water are my feet/hands getting cold. I'd be the first one to grab some booties and mittens from you guys if you offered them - I'd never leave the water during a swell!"

"I can't say enough good things about this wetsuit! , even after a lot of use it barely lets any water in, as the website stated the it was a little stiff for the first couple of days, but after that it just fit like a glove. The seams are particularly well constructed, and this is the first wetsuit I've had that I haven't gotten any chafing in, ever. Thank you for making a great product."
