In search of the best waves on offer.
Max is a 23 year old goofy foot from San Clemente who loves waves of all shape, size, and thickness. You can find him chasing every swell up and down the California coast in search of the best waves on offer. When he is not at home he spends a duration of his summer as a boatman/lifeguard on Tavarua. Over the last 10 winters Max has spent a few months living on the North Shore of Oahu putting in a lot of time, earning himself a spot at Pipeline behind the locals. Some of his favorite waves around the globe include Cloudbreak, Teahupoo, Pipeline, Pascuales, Desert Point, The Wedge, Point Mugu, Blacks, Salt Creek and Lowers.
Max has been dedicated to pursuing his passion for a decade now and as a professional surfer credits much of his success to the support of his parents and sensei Brad Gerlach’s WaveKi. He is partnered with his popps Bruce in a Non-Alcoholic Craft Beer Company called CAPACITY Brewing Co. that they launched in March of 2024. Some of Max’s favorite musicians/bands include fellow Isurus teammate and close friend Dante Madrigal’s band SPLIFFRIFF, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Skeggs, Kodak Black, Eminem & his friend and Eddie Aikau Champion Landon McNamara.
Max spends time volunteering with the Surfers Healing foundation taking kids with autism surfing. During free time at home to make some money to chase his surfing dreams, he hustles surf lessons and helps local kids improve by teaching them proper technique and helps improve their surfing with video review and training. Max also rides for Roark, Timmy Patterson, FCS, Nixon, Range Essentials, Range Sports Therapy, Laguna Surf & Sport, & Mizu.
